TRAI channel selector application introduced - allows the users to select channels and know the monthly rentals

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a new web application. This application will make the channel selection process easier for cable and DTH users. The app takes you through various steps and provides a list of channels so that you can select them according to your preference. It also provides information about prices, so that the user can easily select a package with the best channels which suite their budget. You can use this application by clicking here and pressing the "get started" button at the bottom.

The application shows you the rental amount details by selecting the 'view selection' button at the top right of the page. It also shows you the breakup of free and paid channels, amount paid, GST tax, network capacity fees (NFC) payable to the DTH provider, etc. The total payable amount is shown at the bottom, alongwith the list of channels chosen by the user. One can also use filters in the channel selector application, such as price, HD/SD, genre, broadcaster and language. There is also an optimize button on the view selection page for a cheaper package.

This application is going to be quite helpful for those who are finding it difficult to switch to the new framework imposed by TRAI. Users can also check the details of this new system on the consumer information channel #999 or the DTH company's website. Originally announced in March 2017, the new framework came into effect from December 29, 2018. However, TRAI has extended the date of migration to the new system to 31st of January.

In the new framework, the authority had announced that consumers will now have the option to select channel on à-la-carte basis from the base pack of 100 SD channels which consist of free-to-air channels as well as paid ones. The base pack without any paid channel would cost Rs.130 (Rs.153.40 after including taxes). User will have to pay additionally for any paid channel.
