Steam delivered 15 billion Gigabytes of data in 2018
Valve has revealed that its online network infrastructure steam delivered 15 billion Gigabytes (or 15 exabytes) worth data which includes games, patches, trading cards, etc.
Valve has a server with 2.7 petabytes of solid state storage that delivers data faster. This data includes 1.7 billion granted trading cards, 488 million completed trades, 245 million crafted emoticons, 218 million screen shots posted last year, and so on. Moreover, it also has an "Edge network capacity" of 12 Tbps (12 million megabits per second). This speed is made possible through a network infrastructure created by valve, that it refers to as Edge. This infrastructure consist of 28,000 different local servers in 28 different cities spread across 21 countries. So, when you are downloading anything through steam, like a game, you are not exactly downloading it. Rather you are saving it on huge network structure on your online account.

The graph above shows a significant increase in the amount of data delivered over the last couple years. It can be observed that in 2014, less than 4 exabytes of data was delivered (however it is still a lot), but till 2018, it has increased to almost 4 to 5 times with 15.39 exabytes delivered in this year. However, this size is expected to grow even further in the coming years as its user-base as well as the game-size are increasing everyday.
