Asteroid Apophis - will 1200ft rock hit the earth in less than a year

Apophis - a giant space rock named after the Egyptian God of chaos - is going to cross paths with earth's orbit almost a year later. It will make a "close approach" early in the morning on January 5, 2020. Even at its closest possible distance, it will miss the planet by 41 million miles or 67 million km. However, the 1213ft (370m) wide asteroid will make a devastating impact in 2060 or 2105, as some believe. The Giant rock has been under observation of NASA since 2004 when it was first discovered.
Earlier calculations showed that it may collide in 2029 or 2036. The chances to hit the earth in 2029, were still low at 2.7% while that in 2036 on April 13, was one in 45,000, which has now dropped to 4 in a million. However, the latest observations have estimated that it would fly past nearby earth in less than a year and the previous two predictions has been ruled out. The asteroid is as big as the Empire State building of Newyork.
The California based Jet Propulsion Lab administered by NASA has cleared that there is nothing to fear from the asteroid's flyby. However, according to NASA, any asteroid bigger than 984ft (300m) can cause devastation at "Continental scale" if it hits the earth. Based on their calculations, if Apophis were to make contact with earth, it would slam it with a force of 1,125 megaton. For comparision, the nuclear bomb "little boy" dropped at Hiroshima had a force of just 0.015 Megatons or 15 kilotons.
