NASA confirmed schedule for its lunar mission Artemis 2024 on Thursday. Under this mission, about half a century later, humans will be sent back to the moon. Under the Artemis-1, only the spacecraft will be sent to the moon in 2020. In the second phase, astronauts will be sent to the lunar orbit, while in the third mission, astronauts will land on the lunar surface. For the first time, a female astronaut will be sent on the moon under Artemis-3.
All three missions will be launched with Boeing:
NASA administrator Jim Bridenstein said that all the three missions will be launched with Boeing. This is the largest rocket so far. However, the process of preparing the rocket is still going on. Nasa has also been criticized for its delay. Lockheed Martin has been given the tender for putting Orion capsules in it.
Brindesthine said that apart from these, five more launches are to be done. Through them the goods of Lunar Mini Station Gateway are to be sent. These missions will be sent between 2022 and 2024. Gate-way will be the door to reach the moon. All the five launches will be taken care of by Private companies. For this, they will be paid by NASA.
According to the NASA administrator, the private company Maxer has been selected to prepare the first model of the gateway. To create landers, companies working in the field of space science such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin have put their proposals. Now Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin has also joined this race. It is upto NASA which company will be given the opportunity.
Bridenstein said that NASA does not have the hardware. It is buying it from the outside. He added that 2024 is very close. Soon all work is to be completed. Our plan is not to get stuck after going to the moon, rather we are going to take a step further by going on Mars.
Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo:
The first mission sent to the moon was Apollo. According to Greek mythology, Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo. The US has so far sent six missions to the moon. Apollo-11 was the first successful human mission sent to the moon on behalf of the whole world including America. In this mission, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.
