The Facebook owned messaging app service WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature which will allow its users to control whether they want to be added in a group. This feature will make it much easier for someone to decide who can add them in a group.
The feature is currently under closed beta testing phase on iOS platform, as its Test Flight Program and will soon be expanded to more users with its next beta update. It is also expected to be featured on the android version soon. However, the group invitation functionality is currently deactivated as it is still in its early stages of development. It will be located in the "privacy" section, and can be accessed as follows : settings > account > privacy > groups.
The groups option allows the user to choose between three variables, and based on this setting, it will be decided whether a group admin can add them to their groups or not.
The first option is "Everyone" - this will allow anyone to add you to their groups. The second option is "My contacts" - it will allow the admin of a group to add you only if they are in your contacts list. Once, the invitation is sent, you can choose to accept or decline.
The third and last option is "Nobody" - this option won't allow anyone to add you to any group. However, group admins can still send you invitation to join. Once the invitation is sent, you will have to take action within 72 hrs, else the invitation will expire and the admin will have to send it again. Furthermore, you can also join a group through a group invitation link, irrespective of your group settings.
