TCL is working on a Foldable Smartphone that bends into a smartwatch
Many of the tech companies are expected to bring their foldable phones this year. While some have revealed their prototypes, other are yet to show off their foldable devices at the MWC 2019 next week.
The concept of foldable devices isn't new, but none of the companies has yet been able to launch their foldable phones commercially. In this context, another company named TCL has been reported to have jumped into the plausible upcoming market of foldable devices.
According to the latest reports from CNET, which cited the patents and renders of TCL, the company is working on not just one, but a whole family of foldable devices. TCL makes smartphones for brands like BlackBerry and Alcatel, apart from its own brand.
The company is reported to be working on five foldable devices which include two smartphones, two tabs and a flexible phone that can bend and turn into a smartwatch! All of these five devices will have flexible displays. The fifth device which is a smartphone-cum-smartwatch can fold around your wrist like a bracelet. A similar concept was introduced by Lenovo back in 2016. The company is expected to bring its first foldable device next year. Two other devices are foldable tablets which fold like traditional flip phones.
The report of CNET is primarily based on company's patents and renders, and hence don't reveal anything about specifications and features, or the mechanism with which they work.
Xiaomi and Samsung have already teased foldable devices under their respective brands, while Apple has filed a patent for a device which looks like a foldable phone. Another company Intel, is reported to be working on a triple-display foldable device. On the other hand, companies like Huawei, Nubia and Energizer are yet to reveal foldable phones under their own brands in MWC 2019 next week.
