Oppo unveils its first 5G phone with 48MP camera and Snapdragon 855 SoC processor
The Chinese tech giant Oppo has joined the league of 5G smartphones and has become the next Android brand by launching its 5G capable device at MWC 2019.
At a press conference in MWC 2019, Oppo said that its 5G phone will feature the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC processor coupled with X50 modem for 5G enabling. The unnamed 5G Oppo device will be launched in Q2 (between April to June). Earlier in December last year, Oppo had revealed that it has successfully built a 5G prototype device based on Oppo Find X.
5G is widely seen as a turning point that will revolutionize the mobile phone industry. The next generation network technology promises 10 to 100 times faster Internet speed than 4G network and will take just 1 millisecond to establish the connection.
Phone makers and service providers are scrambling to ready their devices in hopes that being a first-mover will give their brand advantage.
Oppo took the opportunity at the MWC 2019 stage and announced that their unnamed upcoming 5G phone will use three cameras - wide, ultra wide and telephoto lenses- to take photos at 10x "lossless zoom". This means your photos will retain much more details and sharpness even if you zoom at extreme levels. Lossless photography is mostly useful when you are taking shots from afar, for instance, a deer in the woods, a statue at the top of a domed-building or a performer on stage.
Oppo has a portfolio of high-end devices and its sister company Oneplus is also well-known for its premium devices at affordable prices. Oppo grabbed headlines in 2018 with its smartphone Find X which had a unique camera design with sliding mechanism, that rises from the phone giving it an all-screen display design without any notch. Another trend that Oppo has been following with its smartphones is rich colours with eye-catching gradient looks.
