NASA plans to send man to moon once again - syas this time we will stay
The American space agency NASA has announced its plans to send astronauts to moon in coming years. The agency has said that it will start testing human-class Spacecraft from 2024, and will send a crew to the moon till 2028. It also has announced that it plans to work with American space companies like SpaceX to design and develop new reusable systems for landing astronauts on moon.
"When we send astronauts to the surface of the moon in the next decade, it will be in sustainable fashion", NASA chief Jim Bridenstine said. Recalling the moon landing achieved by NASA half a century ago, he further added, "I want to be clear, that is not our vision... This time, when we go to the moon, we will stay." He said that the crew will use NASA's "powerful" Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion Spacecraft to travel to the moon and come back home safely.
The space agency has already set up agreements with nine firms to send the cargo to the earth's only satellite and is also working on designs to send the crew to it.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first two persons to ever walk on the moon in 1969 in the Apollo 11 mission. And since then only 12 people have had this privilege. The last two among these were Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt who made the journey in 1972.
However, unlike the Apollo 11 mission, this time NASA is going to the moon not just to walk but to stay as well.
