PUBG lite beta now live - a free-to-play version for PC with lower-end hardware
Tencent games has started testing out a free lighter version of the game for its PC players. This new version of the game is dubbed as PUBG Lite and is centered towards those who don't have an exclusive gaming PC, but a low-end hardware specifications. It is supposed to take on games like Fortnite which is free to play across all the platforms including PC. The original PC version is available on steam for ₹1,000.
The lite version of the game is currently under testing in Thailand. But the company has posted a blog on its official website stating that it will soon be made available for other countries. However, no particular date has yet been announced for its launch.
The PUBG PC is quite heavy with its intense and dynamic environment and hence it demands high requirements to run on any system. But, bringing a lite version of this game is a very good step by company as it would benifit both the company as well as those enthusiasts who seek to play the game but their system configuration doesn't allow them. It will allow players to play it on mid-range or even low budget PC/laptops and hence allow the company to reach a larger audience.
According to the blog post, company released it in Thailand on January 10, as a limited beta. In a follow up post on January 24,the company revealed that it is now in open beta and can be downloaded by anyone in Thailand.
Developers at PUBG claim that the lite version is in no way inferior to the original game. It is as good as that.
How to download it from outside Thailand?
If you are willing to play the game, but you are not from Thailand, then you can do so very easily. You will have to use a VPN to mask your IP, and show it as if you were located in Thailand. Also remember that after downloading the game, you will have to still keep the VPN service running, while playing the game.
Minimum system requirements to play the game:
According to the developers at the company, the minimum requirements which you will need to run the game without any issue are- Windows 7/8.1/10, Intel core i3 processor, 4GB RAM and an Intel HD 4000 graphics.
