American Scientists receive Nobel prize for Medicine
Earlier on Monday, three US scientists William G. Kaelin, Greg L. Semanaz and Peter J. Radcliffe of Britain were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. According to the news agency Effe, the Nobel Assembly at the Carolinska Institute announced that the three scientists were rewarded for their discovery of how cells recognize oxygen availability and adapt themselves to it.
Through this discovery, they have been able to understand how oxygen levels affect cell metabolism and physiological functions. According to the institute, the discoveries of these scientists can pave the way for developing new strategies to fight blood loss, cancer and other diseases.
