Reliance Jio remains at the top of 4G download speed chart; Idea still dominates the upload speed : TRAI

Reliance Jio has retained its leadership in 4G download speed with an average of 20.9 Mbps in February, 2019, according to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The download speed of Mumbai-based telecom company is notably more than twice as faster than the second position holder Bharti Airtel that has retained an average of 9.4 Mbps download speed. Vodafone has managed to secure the third position with an average download speed of 6.8 Mbps. Idea came last in the list with 5.7 Mbps of reported average download speed.

The fresh data by TRAI shows the download speed chart of the month February, which is dominated by Reliance Jio. The average download speed of the operator was also seen to be a significant spike from January's 18.8 Mbps.

Airtel has continued to retain its second position with 9.4 Mbps. However, it has seen a slight decrease from its previous result of 9.5 Mbps. On the other hand, Vodafone registered a marginal increase from 6.7 Mbps to 6.8 Mbps.

Although, Vodafone and Idea recently merged to form a single entity, but TRAI hasn't made any changes to its speed chart and still shows the results for both the telcos separately. Hence, Idea separately showed a little growth from 5.5 Mbps to 5.7 Mbps.

In terms of upload speed, Vodafone dominated the list for February, with an average of 6.0 Mbps, which is higher than its previous result of 5.4 Mbps in January. 

Idea ranked second with 5.6 Mbps, while Reliance Jio still remains at third position with 4.5 Mbps, a marginal increase from 4.4 Mbps. Airtel sits at the last position with an average of 3.7 Mbps, down from 3.8 Mbps. 

TRAI collects this data from MySpeed application to report monthly download and upload speeds on the dedicated portal.
